Richard Avedon's work at the Amon Carter Museum

On Saturday, Nov. 12, at 10 a.m., we'll journey to distant Fort Worth to visit the Amon Carter Museum's dual exhibits: "In the American West: Photographs by Richard Avedon" and "Laura Wilson: Avedon at Work."

Students are encouraged to attend as this is a rare opportunity to see Avedon's work presented alongside that of Dallas photographer, Laura Wilson, who assisted Avedon during the summers of 1979-84.

If the photo gods smile on us, we'll get Laura in the classroom before the semester ends.

"But," you ask, "is it photojournalism?" No, it's not, but Avedon's influence permeates contemporary photography. His unflinching, in-the-face portraits from this project are powerful and compelling icons of the American West.

Listen to the KERA radio interview with Laura Wilson.
